CR-39 is a solid-state track detector SSNTD used to monitor gas radon, that you can find in houses or workplaces. TECNORAD passes numerous interlaboratory tests organized by the most important international metrological institutions like PHE – “Public Health England PHE-CRCE-011” and Bfs – German Federal Office for Radiation Protection. Detectors are made by little slab made by a plastic polymer, known as CR-39, which is sensitive to alpha radiation generated by the radioactive radon decay, that is not sensitive to other radiations like X orGamma.
CR-39 detectors are inserted in a diffusion chamber, that exploits the natural radon diffusion in the air. Detectors register on the traces on the slab produced by the alpha particles emitted by radon and its decay products. After a chemical development traces are visible with an automatic microscope that counts with a calculation to correlate this data with the radon exposition value.
